Full Abstract: Complete Proposal for Your Session: The process of recruiting and developing a skilled workforce in the erosion and sediment control industry is multifaceted and requires a strategic approach. It begins with the clear and detailed advertising of employment positions to attract candidates. The commitment to engaging potential candidates involves not only identifying those who can fill specific roles but also preparing them for the responsibilities they will undertake. Once onboard, supporting, training, and empowering employees is crucial. This requires active participation from both organizational management and direct supervisors. High-level mentoring for current employees necessitates intentional planning and coordination, ensuring that the transfer of knowledge and skills is effective and tailored to the individual's career path.
Building an organization with a range of expertise from journey level to expert level is a testament to the industry's dedication to growth and development. The past 50 years have seen a significant evolution in our Industry, thanks to pioneers who valued learning and sharing knowledge. Recognizing the contributions of individuals across the industry and investing time to mentor them is essential for fostering the next generation of leaders.
The June 2024 Environmental Connections Magazine Article developed by the subcommittee on Erosion and Sediment Control highlights the importance of individuals as Best Management Practices (BMPs). A survey included in the article provides a platform for organizations to share their insights on workforce development. The feedback from this survey can be a valuable resource for understanding how the industry is currently shaping its future leaders. The IECA Annual Conference is an opportunity for professionals to come together, discuss strategies, and learn from each other's experiences in recruiting, developing, mentoring, and empowering the workforce.

Moderator Skill Set:: I have participated as moderator for a couple of Campfire chat presentations at previous IECA conferences. I co-instruct certification classes for industry labor force in North Carolina which has allowed me to gain experience engaging audiences.

However this gathering will only be successful if active participation occurs before and during IECA 2025 Conference. Participate in the survey found in the July issue of Environmental Connections Magazine (Page 23). Offer input and feedback!
