This presentation will showcase how GCCM's can be used to lower cost, increase speed of installation and provide a more environmentally friendly alternative for storm water and erosion control projects. In short, how it can replace conventional solutions such as articulated concrete blocks, shotcrete and pour-in-place concrete, in many cases, with a longer design life. It will also reinforce the need to specify materials to ASTM D8364 - the only internationally recognized standard for specifying GCCM. It presents different methods for joining the panels depending on project specific requirements. There is a brief overview of potential applications for GCCM, but the focus is a case study where GCCM was used to line a 1/4 mile irrigation canal in less than 4 days resulting in >96% seepage reduction.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees will:
Understand the importance of ASTM D8364 requirements when specifying GCCM.
Understand the type of applications for which GCCMs are well suited.
Understand the available methods of joining GCCM panels depending on strength and permeability requirements.
