Far too often, permeable and porous “alternative” surfaces are judged for the failures that are seen at the surface. From maintenance concerns to aesthetic appears, developers have many apprehensions. These apprehensions are the result of inadequate knowledge and improper specification. Therefore, this presentation will offer the audience an understanding about the alternative surfaces, the many different elements involved in selecting the right type for the right application, and how with the proper knowledge, alternative surfaces can provide a powerful BMP in successful projects.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees will:
Differentiate among the different types of alternative surfaces and applications they serve.
Utilize key design principles to ensure proper functionality, so that these surfaces can become a working part of a larger stormwater system.
Understand implications of surrounding environmental factors on maintenance and longevity of alternative surfaces.
